It’s been a while since our last update from Project Lumeah, our first build on Bruny Island. Back then we’d just finished the foundations and slab. Since then the team has worked through framing and plaster, and we’re now into the finishing touches, with handover to our clients planned for Christmas.
Fit-out highlights:
Zak on the kitchen: “This kitchen isn’t the norm off the shelf, it’s completely custom, all the way from the 10 mm steel bench tops that the clients hand picked out, through to the reclaimed timber panels, which we’ve actually used timber from this site.”
On the floors, he says: “Our trade partners at JD Flooring have done an exceptional job with this Taz Oak floor system, all the way through the kitchen, down the hallway and into the bedrooms.”
As with any Bruny build, logistics have been a big part of the job. Every delivery has to be timed around the ferry runs.
Zak is direct about how different that is: “This is vastly different to anything that we might be doing in the Kingston or Huonville area, where we have a Mitre 10 just down the road.”
That’s why we put so much into forward planning on the island, with Zak project managing Lumeah directly.
As he puts it: “We can have dedicated people in roles like myself project managing this one to make sure that we have products on time when needed, to minimise delays.”
Tom, co-owner of Nomac Built, doesn’t feature on camera as much, but Zak says he “is really in the trenches when it comes to the construction process. He lives and breathes these from start to finish.” Having both directors this close to the job is a big part of how we deliver projects like this on Bruny Island.
Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be buttoning up the final touches. Follow Nomac Built on social media for the grand reveal, and see more about our work as a builder on Bruny Island. To see how we plan around the ferry, read our guide to building on Bruny Island.
